Softcore pornography differs from hardcore pornography in the sense that certain images of vaginal or anal sex, oral sex, ejaculations, and depictions of erections are not shown. These images are obscured by cleverly placed props and body parts for the purpose of expanding the market for more profits. Softcore productions can be shown not only on the web, but also in magazines and even on TV; channels like Cinemax After Dark and HBO Adults Only air softcore movies on certain nights of the week if the channel is purchased. This creates a certain amount of controversiality, as individuals under 18 can sometimes view these films.
TV and Film Productions Since there are less strict guidelines to producing and distributing softcore pornography than hardcore porn, the market is much wider and tailors to a different audience. Softcore porn can be sold, aired, and promoted to varying degrees, depending on the country. because of this freedom, many producers have taken to filming full length films loosley themed off of classic or well known movies. Alambama Jones and the Busty Crusade, The Hills have Thighs, and Alice in Wonderland are all examples of softcore productions based on popular films.
TV channels have also profited from the industry. Cinemax After Dark has produced several profitable softcore porn series such as Chemistry, Lingerie, Life on Top, and The Girl's Guide to Depravity. The Santa Monica production company MRG Entertainment produced a 13 episode short TV series for Cinemax called Co-Ed Confidential, which is now on its fourth season. |
